Minimum Wage in Maharashtra 2025 — District-wise Rates

Every worker in Maharashtra is legally entitled to a minimum wage — a floor below which no employer can pay. If you are working as a driver, security guard, factory helper, shop assistant, or office boy and your salary is below this floor, your employer is violating the law. This guide explains the current minimum wage rates and what you can do if you are being underpaid.

What is Minimum Wage?

Minimum wage is the lowest amount an employer must legally pay a worker per day or per month. In Maharashtra, minimum wages are set by the state government under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, and are revised twice a year — in January and July. The rates vary depending on the type of work (skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled) and the industry.

Maharashtra Minimum Wage Rates 2025 (per month)

  • Unskilled Worker — ₹12,000 to ₹14,000/month
  • Semi-Skilled Worker — ₹13,500 to ₹16,000/month
  • Skilled Worker — ₹15,000 to ₹19,000/month
  • Highly Skilled Worker — ₹18,000 to ₹22,000/month
  • Security Guard — ₹14,500 to ₹17,000/month
  • Shop/Establishment Worker — ₹12,500 to ₹16,000/month
  • Construction Worker — ₹13,000 to ₹18,000/month
  • Driver (Light Vehicle) — ₹15,000 to ₹20,000/month
  • Driver (Heavy Vehicle) — ₹17,000 to ₹24,000/month

Note: These are approximate ranges. The exact rate depends on your specific zone (Mumbai, Pune, rest of Maharashtra) and the industry your employer falls under. Mumbai and Pune have slightly higher rates due to the higher cost of living.

Zone-wise Difference

  • Zone A (Mumbai, Thane, Pune) — Highest rates
  • Zone B (Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Kolhapur) — Medium rates
  • Zone C (Sangli, Satara, Latur, Nanded and smaller districts) — Base rates

What if Your Employer Pays Less?

If you are being paid below the minimum wage, you have legal rights. You can file a complaint with the Labour Commissioner's office in your district. The process is free, and you may be entitled to recover the unpaid difference for up to 5 years. Keep any proof of payment — salary slips, bank transfers, or WhatsApp messages about salary.
