How to Write a Job Ad That Actually Gets Responses

Most job ads get zero good responses — not because no one is looking, but because the ad itself is useless. Vague titles, missing salary, and no specific location are the three biggest reasons employers struggle to fill positions. Here's how to fix that in under 10 minutes.

Be Specific in the Job Title

Write exactly what you need. 'Driver required' is weak. 'Experienced Car Driver needed — Sangli city, own mobile required' is better. 'MIG Welder needed for Kupwad MIDC factory — ITI certificate preferred' is even better. Candidates who see a specific title know immediately whether they qualify. Vague titles attract vague candidates and waste everyone's time.

Always Mention the Salary

This is the single biggest mistake employers make. Ads without salary — 'salary as per experience,' 'attractive package,' 'negotiable' — get significantly fewer responses. Workers don't have time to call and ask. A simple line like 'Salary: ₹14,000-17,000/month' gets you 3x more relevant responses. If you're flexible, write 'Salary: ₹14,000 starting, negotiable for experience' — thats honest and still gives a clear reference point.

What to Include in Every Job Ad

Employer team meeting to discuss job requirements
  • Job title — specific trade and role (e.g., 'Experienced Welder — MIG Welding')
  • Salary — exact range, even if approximate
  • Location — area and city, not just district (e.g., 'Miraj, Sangli' not just 'Sangli')
  • Experience required — '2+ years preferred' or 'freshers also welcome'
  • Working hours — shift timings, 6-day or 5-day week
  • Contact — WhatsApp number gets 2-3x more responses than just a voice call number
  • Extra benefits — accommodation, food, PF/ESIC, transport allowance if applicable

What NOT to Write

  • Do not write 'good salary' or 'best in industry' — no one believes vague claims
  • Avoid listing 10+ requirements for a basic trade job — it screens out everyone qualified
  • Don't use corporate English for blue-collar ads — 'dynamic team player' means nothing to a plumber
  • Don't post without a working WhatsApp number — this kills any ad instantly
  • Don't write 'immediate joining only' unless truly critical — good workers have notice periods

Good Ad vs. Bad Ad

Bad: 'Driver wanted. Good salary. Contact 9876543210.' Good: 'Car Driver needed — Sangli city (Vishrambag area). Monday to Saturday 9am-6pm. Salary ₹13,000/month + mobile allowance. Must know Sangli roads. WhatsApp: 9876543210.' The second version takes 30 seconds more to write and generates 5x better responses. Every extra detail filters out wrong candidates and attracts the right ones. Post your job for free on MahaJob — your listing stays visible for weeks, not hours like Facebook posts.
